Making a difference in Waco Texas

  • Community Resource Speaker Activities: Provide informational seminars and workshops to parents in the AVANCE class Motivate, educate and encourage program participants Qualifications: Expertise in a “need area” of AVANCE families (i.e. Healthcare, legal and immigration issues, child safety, self-esteem, and empowerment). Public speaking skills. Must be patient, caring, and able to communicate in an encouraging and supportive manner. Bilingual preferred but not necessary. Hours: Tuesdays & Wednesdays for 1 hour (12noon – 1pm)

  • Early Childhood Assistant Activities: Assist Early Childhood staff to ensure that children receive adequate personal attention Work with children individually and in groups by storytelling, singing and/or craft-making Co-teach 3-year-olds in the AVANCE-Waco pre-Kindergarten class Qualifications: Enjoys teaching and has experience with young children. Must be patient, caring, and able to communicate in and encouraging and supportive manner. Bilingual preferred but not necessary. Background check. Hours: Tuesday & Wednesdays for 1 hour (12noon – 1pm)

  • Literacy Aide Activities: Assist Literacy Instructor to ensure that participants receive adequate instruction for ESL and/or GED courses Provide one-on-one help to adults in English language skills and academic concepts Provide an encouraging and supportive learning environment, recognizing students’ accomplishments and achievements Qualifications: Any individual who enjoys teaching and encouraging participation from families. Must be patient, organized, and able to communicate in a supportive manner. Spanish speaking is not required but preferred for students wishing to tutor Adult Basic Education and/or GED students. Hours: Mondays - Wednesdays for 1 hour (12noon – 1pm)
